Niagara-Wheatfield product Kyrstin Lekki was named the Buffalo State College athlete of the week after helping the Bengals’ softball team to a 6-4 start on the season.
The sophomore was 12 of 30 from the plate during a road swing through Clermont, Fla., and had six extra-base hits, including a home run. Lekki also had seven RBIs and six runs scored while playing every game at shortstop.

The Niagara women’s tennis team nipped Oakland in dramatic fashion on Monday for its third-straight victory.
The Purple Eagles (5-12) got wins from doubles tandems of Hilary Hansen and Alyssa Lucas, and Julia Gray in the win.

The Purple Eagles got a valiant effort from freshman Jeremy Quiroz at first singles, but couldn’t manage a point against a Stetson team that’s ranked 70th in the nation.

Lekki gets weekly Buff St. honor
Buffalo State College named Kyrstin Lekki (Niagara-Wheatfield) of the Bengals softball team as its athlete of the week.

- Central Michigan sweeps UB Central Michigan hurlers Ty Dunham and Josh Collmenter each threw shutouts Saturday as the University at Buffalo baseball team dropped a Mid-American Conference doubleheader to the visiting Chippewas at Amherst Audubon Field. CMU won the opener 5-0 and then shutout the Bulls 8-0 in the second contest.
