Here’s another reason to be glad you live in the Tonawandas: The Riviera Theatre.
At 1 and 7:30 p.m. today, “Blind Side” will be shown at the theater — the cost: $2.
“The Blind Side,” starring Oscar award winner Sandra Bullock, is perfect timing as the Oscar show was just last week. The other night at a birthday dinner, a friend of my daughter’s said how much she wanted to see that movie (which is a true story) but hated to spend $20 or so to buy a ticket and some popcorn and soda. She can get a ticket and all she wants to munch on and have money left over and never have to cross the bridge.

A sad e-mail came from Simply Sue’s, the neat little restaurant and much more in Tonawanda, saying that “after much prayer and consideration, Alison and I have decided that it’s time to close the shop.”
Sue wrote that the closing is due partly to lack of business and mostly due to her own physical well-being.
“When we do have a day that is busy and bringing in what we would need to do — they are days that should be everyday in order to make ends meet — I am in so much pain by the end of the day,” Sue said.
“I'm not sure what I will do next, except take some time to just be.”
Simply Sue’s will be open until the end of March so if you have a chance, stop by and say good-bye.
Sue concluded by saying she will miss Main Street and everything about it.
“But I know that God has something else lined up for me and this experience will greatly add to whatever it is,” she wrote. “I thank you all for supporting and encouraging me. It has been a dream come true.”

Just a reminder from the YWCA that if you need and qualify for HEAP assistance, the Department of Social Services Niagara County will be at the YW, 49 Tremont St., North Tonawanda, from 4 to 7 p.m. March 24 and every Wednesday evening as long as there is need or the HEAP season ends It is not to late to qualify for HEAP assistance and there may be other emergency benefits that will come in to action. So mark the date on your calendar.

Sure signs of spring: Birds chirping, robin sighting and, my very favorite, a street cleaner running about the Town of Tonawanda cleaning up the winter mess. Will you miss all the huge piles of frozen snow at the street corners? Cort Whitcomb called the other day and was wishing that companies and businesses that plowed all the snow on corners so that you have to pull out into traffic to see if anyone is coming, would now have a plow take the snow away.

Just a reminder: Daylight Savings Time starts tonight. Yikes! Where did the time go? It’s spring ahead, in case you’ve forgotten.

John Dixon connected with another photo from the Bo’Ness Fair in Scotland and this time he send a CD of the music sung at the festival. On top of that, he sent the words to the songs because they are hard to understand with the Scottish accents. But fun to hear.

So many lives were touched by Norma Frech, whose work as a school nurse kept our kids healthy for years. Norma died last week but will be remembered for years to come as the smiling, gentle person who dealt with everyone in a kind manner. I never recall seeing her that she didn’t have a smile on her face. She will be sadly missed. Condolences to her family.
