on Rojek article
Thank you from our Board of Trustees on behalf of the more than 7,000 supporters of the North Tonawanda History Museum for the wonderful article in the Oct. 16 Tonawanda News by Ed Adamczyk about Stan Rojek’s induction into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame.
The North Tonawanda History Museum worked with Holland Central School District Global Studies teacher, Ron Carr, whose 2011 sports history class created the nomination package that resulted in our North Tonawanda sports hero, dairyman and bowling center owner, Stan Rojek, being inducted on Oct. 17, 2012, into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame. Stan’s son, Bart Rojek, had visited the Holland class in 2009, resulting in their interest in our North Tonawanda sports hero and their initiating the effort to get him inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame.
In addition to providing Mr. Carr and his terrific students with additional information from our history files and publications on North Tonawanda’s history, we also provided a letter of support from the History Museum and obtained letters of support from New York state Sen. George Maziarz and North Tonawanda Mayor Robert G. Ortt for the application.
We have an exhibit on Stan Rojek in the History Museum, which will include your Oct. 16 article in the Tonawanda News sports section, along with copies of the articles earlier this year when his selection was announced. One such article which appeared in the Am-Pol Eagle and used a photo of the initial announcement with Bart Rojek, Ron Carr and Ron’s students is especially popular. We also have a copy of the actual nomination created by the students on permanent display so that the students — and Mr. Carr — will forever be recognized for their efforts.
We invite all who have an interest in Stan to visit the History Museum. We are proud to have three North Tonawandans in the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame, with racing legend Jim Hurtubise and beloved NTHS football coach George Vetter being the other two. We are proud to have Jim Hurtubise’s plaque from his installation on display in our History Museum exhibit on his life.
