• The film “Ice Age” was shown at the Riviera Theatre as part of the Family Film Series co-sponsored by the YWCA of the Tonawandas.
• “A Pride of NY” campaign was initiated to promote family farms in Western and Central New York that sell milk.
1987 — 25 years ago
• To help eliminate sewage overflows and infiltration in the Town of Tonawanda Wastewater Treatment plant, the Village of Kenmore completed a sump survey that found that 34 percent of village residents had sump pumps and 66 percent did not.
• Cadet David Stasinski of the Town of Tonawanda was officially accepted into the Air Force Academy’s Cadet Wing as a member of the class of 1991.
1962 — 50 years ago
• Former President Harry S. Truman predicted that Richard Nixon would return one day to politics despite his recent loss in the California governor’s race.
• The Tonawanda High School football team was all set to place its crown on the line at the upcoming T-NT game. Both teams were unbeaten in seven games and Tonawanda was the defending champion.
1942 — 70 years ago
• The stork was no respecter of blackouts. That was evident during the previous night’s blackout, when a call was received at police headquarters for an ambulance to take Mrs. Daniel Holmes to the maternity ward at DeGraff Hospital.
• The street known as Park Place, which ran east-west at the north boundary of the new Nor-Ton Courts defense housing project, was renamed Courtside Drive by the North Tonawanda Board of Aldermen.
