Tonawanda News — Niagara Falls police detectives are trying to determine what led to a man being shot in the head Tuesday afternoon on Highland Avenue.
Police said the 25-year-old victim was sitting in his car on Highland, at the intersection of Calumet Avenue shortly after noon when two men he said he didn’t know approached his car and began shooting at him, hitting him once in the side of the head.
“It appears one (of the shooters) had a larger caliber (gun) than the other,” police Superintendent John Chella said. “He was hit in the side of the head with the smaller caliber.”
Chella said the injury was not considered life-threatening.
After being shot, the man drove himself to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and was later transferred to Erie County Medical Center.
Chella said detectives spoke with the victim, but he was not able to identify the suspects.
“He doesn’t know who shot him or why,” he said.
Police spoke with witnesses at the scene but Chella said they were “less than cooperative.”
