Sloma steps down from IDA board

Tonawanda News — Henry Sloma has announced his resignation from the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency’s board of

directors.

A choked-up Chairman Sloma thanked the staff of the agency for their hard work and dedication during his final board meeting Wednesday.

“Thank you very much for all of your help, to the staff and all that you do,” Sloma said. “I appreciate all of your help.”

Sloma, who has been a board member since 2004, said business for a consulting company he has formed — YRB Strategies, LLC — could present a conflict of interest in the future. As a result, he said, he decided to tender his resignation from the board.

“There are people who know me and value my knowledge of the system and want to hire me,” Sloma said.

Sloma feels he and the board have been able to do positive things for the community but said he is ready for something different.

“I’ve enjoyed doing this,” Sloma said. “It’s been a great challenge.”

Sloma said he recently celebrated his 69th birthday and that got him thinking about what to do next.

“I want to do something fresh,” Sloma said.

The Niagara County legislature will replace Sloma in the coming weeks.

Sloma’s letter of resignation, addressed to Niagara County Legislature Chairman William Ross, said he will serve as chair for the remainder of the week. Michael Tucker, the mayor of Lockport and the vice-chair of the agency’s board, will serve as acting chair until the board holds its annual reorganization meeting in March.
