Tonawanda News — 2003 — 10 years ago

• Tonawanda raised docking fees at Gateway Harbor with full use of electricity and water from $10 to $15 per night. Mayor Gallagher said the city was in line with or even less than other canal locations.

• The North Tonawanda Housing Authority was to be taken over by the Sheldrake Organization of Long Island and the city would no longer own low income Nor-Ton and Scarfone Apartments. Sheldrake was to perform much-needed repairs and assume the city’s debts in connection with the Housing Authority.

1963 — 50 years ago 

• Cub Pack 654 staged its Blue and Gold Dinner in high style at the Red Lobster restaurant, hoping to give the pack’s hard working Den Mothers “a break.”

• Kenmore Police Detective Thomas J. deGuehery and Patrolman Robert A. Schifferli raced the mile-and-a-half distance from Schifferli’s home to Police Headquarters in less than 15 minutes. The feat was in response to a challenge.
