Tonawanda News — TOWN OF WHEATFIELD - The Niagara County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the origin of a letter that warned an African American man living on Ward Road to “get out” or “your gonna get hung.”
In a report filed Wednesday, the victim told police that he found the letter in question in his mailbox Tuesday evening and that it was addressed as resident on the envelope with no return address. The report indicated that the letter appeared to be postmarked Nov. 9 in Buffalo. The report notes that the victim did speak with representatives from the post office and did find out that the letter was mailed.
According to the report, the handwritten letter stated “(N-word) I warned you get out. Your gonna get hung” and included a KKK symbol in the lower, right corner. The victim told the sheriff’s department this was the second incident of a similar nature he’s encountered since moving into his new residence. The report indicates that on Oct. 13 the same victim reported to police that someone tarred and egged his driveway and threw possible animal waste on the front porch area of his home.
