Father and son weed operation busted

Tonawanda News — City of Tonawanda detectives arrested a father and son duo Monday afternoon after a search determined the pair was growing marijuana in their Follete Lane home, police said.

Paul S. Bak, 52, and his son, Kyle O. Bak, 24, were charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawfully growing cannabis.

The arrest occurred at about 4:30 p.m.

“Kyle told officers they were growing marijuana plants outside until the weather turned cold and then moved them inside,” Lt. Fredric Foels said.

Foels said detectives found 7.85 ounces of marijuana buds and leaves in the home, numerous bongs and pipes with marijuana residue on them, 12 jars of mushrooms growing in the fridge and 27 lidoderm patches.

“There was marijuana residue in all three bedrooms,” Foels said.

Detectives discovered two marijuana growing rooms in the basement.

“One room had a table with marijuana drying out on it,” Foels said. “And in another area, there were grow lights and pots with marijuana that had been harvested.”

Other growing tools were found in another part of the basement.

A third Bak, Paul’s son, is expected to surrender with his lawyer in connection with the operation.
