• The NT High School girls softball team scheduled a softball clinic on five consecutive Saturdays for girls in grades 4-8.
• “Nunsense II: The Second Coming” opened at the Riviera Theatre.

• Jennifer Vaughn of NT sold 903 boxes of Girl Scout cookies making her the second highest cookie seller in Western New York.
• Members of the Town of Tonawanda Town Board met with State Sen. Walter Floss and Assemblyman Robin Schimminger to discuss their concerns.
1963 — 50 years ago
• Marvin L. Marshak, 16, a senior at Kenmore West High School, was one of 327 high school students across the country named “most promising young scientists” as a result of the Westinghouse Science Talent Search.
• The Salvation Army disclosed plans to build a center in the Tonawandas area as part of a five-year program of construction to expand facilities. A temporary office was to be up and running by June.
1943 — 70 years ago
• Richard Wilke, age 12, of Niagara Street, Tonawanda, appeared on Billy Keaton’s “Sunday Show” over radio station WGR. He was with other amateurs of Western New York competing for a $10 prize.
• Kathleen Smyton of North Tonawanda was among five girls accepted for education in engineering by the Curtiss-Wright Corporation Airplane Division. The girls would be known as Curtiss-Wright Engineering Cadets.
