Drunk walker struck by car

Tonawanda News — A pedestrian was hit by a car early Sunday in the Town of Tonawanda at Military Road and Ralston Avenue, police said.

“It turns out it appears the pedestrian was intoxicated, and alcohol was a factor,” Town of Tonawanda police Lt. Nick Bado said. “He was wearing dark clothing and crossing in an area he shouldn’t have.”

The accident took place at 2:53 a.m.

The female driver of the vehicle, a two-door Chevrolet Monte Carlo, said she was coming from Mooney’s Sports Bar & Grill on Military Road and admitted to drinking two alcoholic beverages before leaving.

She told police she “did not see the pedestrian until his head hit her windshield,” according to the police report.

The pedestrian, whose name is not being released, was sent to Erie County Medical Center with injuries that did not appear to be life threatening, although he had hit his head and was bleeding.

He also submitted to a blood and urine test at the hospital.

Police on the scene did not believe the driver, whose name is also not being released, was intoxicated. She submitted to field tests which she passed, and went to Kenmore Mercy Hospital for a blood and urine test.

“Investigators are continuing to work on the case, and one or both of them may get a ticket,” Bado said.

The accident took place at 1399 Military Road.
