• The Kenmore West Blue Devils won their first ever Section VI girls basketball championship.

• The State Department of Environmental Conservation stocked the pond at Oppenheim Park with 600 rainbow trout.

1988 — 25 years ago

• Wheatfield Post 1451, American Legion, honored Paul Corcoran, past commander, and Ann Putz, past auxiliary president, at a dinner dance in the post.

• The Ken-Ton YMCA Sync-Kipettes, recent Junior Olympic synchronized swimming gold medalists, were hosting the annual Niagara Association Age Group Championships at the Ken-Ton YMCA.

1963 — 50 years ago

• Joe La Joy and his Musical Knights performed Saturday nights at the Double D on Main Street.

• William Scheibert completed 20 years of service as a custodian in the NT school system and he never missed a day’s work during those years.

1943 — 70 years ago

• The Central Council of Polish Organizations, 2000 strong, stood behind ousted Sealer of Weights and Measures Henry J. Koch. Democratic major domo Walter Jesella objected to legislation which eased Koch out of the position and put Health Inspector Alex Nelson in.

•  A total of 25,628 War Ration Books #2 were issued to North Tonawanda residents with less confusion and more satisfaction than with Book #1.
