DuPont hiring 27

NIAGARA FALLS — The hiring of 27 new employees at the Niagara Falls DuPont plant was confirmed by company officials Tuesday.

Rick Straitman, a DuPont spokesman, told Greater Niagara Newspapers 25 full-time wage roll jobs are being added to the books at the Buffalo Avenue plant, as well as two technical positions.

He said DuPont is hiring at plants across the country and over the past several years, the company has eliminated positions through attrition and an increase in retirements has made the hiring necessary. Straitman called the hiring significant at a time when many industrial workers are out of jobs or have been laid-off because of a declining economy.

The positions are expected to be filled by March.

“We’ve been in Niagara Falls a long time,” Straitman said. “Niagara Falls is a community that has been very good to DuPont.”

The Buffalo Avenue plant manufactures sodium products used in the creation of biofuels and chlorine products.
