New York State Sen. George Maziarz, R-Newfane, is throwing his support behind Larry Kudlow to challenge Charles Schumer for the United States Senate seat this November.
Kudlow, host of CNBC’s “The Kudlow Report,” is a former advisor to President Ronald Reagan, serving as associate director for economics and planning in the Office of Management and Budget. He has also contributed regularly to a long list of newspapers and television programs. And while contending against Schumer, who has held his place in the senate since 1999, might seem like an uphill battle, Maziarz said recent electoral upsets prove that anything is possible.
“If nothing else, Scott Brown has shown us that no seat should be taken for granted and no one is invincible,” Maziarz stated. “Larry Kudlow has the right message at the right time to address the economic challenges that lie ahead.”
Maziarz has taken that support on-line, registered at a Web site for those hoping to recruit Kudlow, www.draftkudlow.com, and is a fan of the Facebook page “Draft Larry Kudlow for New York.” Despite criticism Kudlow has taken for denying that the U.S. was heading into a recession just before the recent economic meltdown, Maziarz contends that the long-time champion of tax cuts will be a much-needed change in Washington.
“Larry Kudlow will bring much needed fiscal conservatism to Washington,” Maziarz said. “At a time when our economy continues to slump, we can no longer accept the status quo.”
The New York Observer has reported that the people positioning themselves behind Kudlow have also hired a finance chair to helm the group, which hopes to create a network for use in overcoming a reported $19 million that Schumer has raised to spend on his campaign.
