TOWN OF TONAWANDA —
The Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda Transportation Department will hold a school bus orientation and open house for families today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the department’s headquarters at 1680 Military Road, just north of Sheridan Drive.
While the event is geared towards kindergarten pupils, students of all ages and grade levels can attend the free event with their families. Law enforcement officials will provide “stranger danger” workshops.
Bus drivers and aides will show students and their parents important information on how to enter, exit, and ride on buses. Children will learn safety tips on where danger areas and blind spots are when exiting buses, the proper way to cross, and the proper way to ride on buses.
“Coming to our open house, where students will learn important information that will keep them safe in and around buses, is the most important thing parents can do before the start of the school year,” said Ken-Ton Transportation Supervisor John O’Connor.
Refreshments, snacks and food will be available for families who attend.
The Transportation Department has also posted important application materials on the district’s website at www.kenton.k12.ny.us. Applications for students who request transportation and attend private schools outside the district are on the website, as well as the application for students who need transportation to after-school daycare programs.
