Tonawanda News — This is the text of the letter sent home to parents of students at Hoover middle and elementary schools, Kenmore West High School and Lindbergh Elementary:
February 11, 2013
Dear Parents/Guardians:
A report was given by the Town of Tonawanda Police Chief to our Superintendent, a suspicious individual was seen leaving the Mobil Mart this morning at Highland and Colvin and local principals were alerted. This individual was reported by another patron at the mart, and overheard him indicating it's "time to lock and load"....the individual was an older male between the ages of 60-70, with a gray sweatshirt, jeans, and a gray beard and appeared to have a black hand gun. Police have been in the area and the individual has not been found at this time. The reporting patron was found and interviewed. Police have reported directly to St. John’s, Hoover, and West. Our police department requested normal procedures but to be vigilant. As a precautionary measure, the Superintendent of Schools indicated a “lock out” protocol to the Hoover Complex, West, and Lindbergh. This protocol lessens the ability for individual to gain access to our school buildings.
We look to keep the lines of communication open with our families and inform you of this incident to do so as the safety of our children is paramount.
