ECONOMY: National Fuel extends rebate program

Staff Reports

National Fuel is extending its program to offer rebates to those buying more energy efficient versions of certain gas appliances.

The New York State Public Service Commission approved continuing the program for a third year, running from December 2009 until November 2010. Commission Chairman Gary Brown said the program is furthering the goal of improving energy efficiency statewide.

“It has consistently reported positive results, and it has kept administrative costs at reasonable levels,” Brown said.

More than $4 million has been allotted for the National Fuel program, offering rebates to both residential and non-residential natural gas customers who buy and install more energy efficient equipment. Non-residential customers can opt to get the rebate from a predetermined list based on the item purchased or by using a customizable, performance-based model. The accompanying chart lists the appliances on the rebate list, with qualifications for each based on a statistic called Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency.

Customers should contact National Fuel customer service at 686-6123 for more details.
