CITY OF TONAWANDA: Bike theft leads to fight in 'Broad' daylight

The theft of a bicycle led to a noontime scrap in the middle of Broad Street on Friday.

Daniel R. Williams, 28, 49 Longmeadow Drive, Amherst, was charged with petit larceny following the altercation, which began when a patron of the Burger King on Delaware Street saw Williams riding away on the victim’s bicycle, which had been left outside unattended. The victim and an onlooker got into the onlooker’s car and began searching for Williams.

They found him riding the stolen bike down Broad Street. At that point, according to police reports, the victim got out of the car and tackled Williams. The two men began fighting in the middle of Broad Street.

The altercation went on until three witnesses who were in the American Legion at the time came out to break up the fight.

Williams fled the scene before police arrived, but was apprehended a short time later walking on Sweeney Street in North Tonawanda.

Williams was brought back to the City of Tonawanda police station and charged before being released on an appearance ticket.
