A woman arrested for allegedly stealing cans of Red Bull and malt liquor saw drug charges added to the list of offenses after police went through her purse.
Town police stopped a vehicle after a convenience store employee called to complain of a woman putting items in her purse while her male companion bought beer. The man inside the vehicle produced receipts for the beer he had in the back seat of the car, but Sarah M. Marlette said she didn’t even have her purse or identification with her.
Once Marlette stepped out of the car, police located her purse in the back seat, which contained two cans of Red Bull, two cans of malt liquor and three Slim Fast bars, according to reports. She told police she bought one of the cans of Red Bull and the other “fell into (her) purse.”
Marlette was found to have an active warrant out of the town and was taken into custody. As she was driven to the police station, Marlette yelled racial slurs at officers.
When her purse was searched more extensively back at the station, officers found a bag of marijuana and a plastic container containing two types of crushed prescription pills and two straws cut short. A pharmacist told police the pills were two types of stimulant drugs, including Ritalin.
Marlette told officers she was having a seizure and couldn’t walk out of the questioning room after the pills were discovered, but an evaluation by paramedics showed no such medical problems. She was held for court.
