early a week after a child was reportedly kidnapped from a North Tonawanda home, police continue to say little about several of the details related to the case.
David J. Grover, the 34-year-old Town of Tonawanda man accused of taking a five-year-old girl from her home for several hours on Saturday, was in NT City Court on Thursday, where he waived his right to a felony hearing for kidnapping with a sexual motivation and endangering the welfare of a child charges.
The case will now go before a Niagara County grand jury that will consider Grover’s indictment on the felony charge.
But with Thursday’s testimony waived, investigators have still not said publicly what apparent sexual improprieties took place or where they happened.
“There’s nothing at this point and time, we’re still working on it,” said NT Police Capt. Roger Zgolak. “We’re still working on some leads.”
To that end, detectives have asked anyone with knowledge of the case to call them and offer their information by calling 692-4312. Police are especially hoping to speak with anyone who may have seen Grover with the girl between the hours of 2:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Saturday.
Clean shaven and wearing an orange Niagara County Jail jump suit, Grover stood before Judge William R. Lewis after being transfered to North Tonawanda City Court.
Grover is no stranger to such proceedings. He plead guilty to reduced charges in 2007 for endangering the welfare of a child after he abducted another small child, though nothing sexual in nature was proven at the time of that incident. However, Grover spent nearly four years in Orleans County Correctional Facility and was released in the spring of 2011 before his most recent act was alleged.
Public Defender James Rizzo told Lewis that his client “did not wish to testify.” His next appearance in court is yet to be announced.
“Make sure you stay in contact with the public defenders’ office,” Lewis told Grover, who was then sent back to county jail where he will remain in custody without bail.
The family of Grover’s victim on Saturday was also in court, though they declined to comment on the case.
