Tonawanda News — 2003 — 10 years ago

• Canal Concert Series Inc. was awarded a 3-year contract to hold eight concerts per season at Gateway Park.

• Preparations were underway for the 17th Niagara Ice Wine Festival at Niagara-on-the-Lake.

1988 — 25 years ago

David Mayer, a Ken-East senior, was cited as the first student athlete in the school’s history to have played football for six consecutive years from 7th through 12th grades.

• NT’s Mike Nowak tandem-jumped from a helicopter during a skydiving exhibition to raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

1963 — 50 years ago

• Construction at Dunkirk of a revolutionary steel plant by Roblin-Seaway Industries, Inc., of North Tonawanda and Buffalo was expected to be undertaken in the next three months.

• A NEWS Advertisement advised: “Time is running out. Follow the crowds to Fishman’s Going Out of Business Sale.” A completely equipped soda fountain was also available as part of the sale.

1943 — 70 years ago

• The Young People’s group of the Third Presbyterian church held a party at the home of John Bollier, East Felton street, in honor of Frank Streeter, who was leaving for the armed forces.

• Close to 200 certificates were handed out at Felton School to students for penmanship. An additional 50 certificates for skill in blackboard writing were also awarded.
