City of Tonawanda police and fire crews had their hands full Tuesday evening when two cars struck buildings in unrelated accidents that happened just 21 minutes apart.
The first occurred at 5:43 p.m. when a vehicle clipped a building downtown, at 59 Main St.
Assistant Fire Chief Joe Bacon said no one was injured and the building incurred only moderate damage.
“It was mostly cosmetic, to the lower portion,” Bacon said. “The car just kind of skimmed the front.”
In the other incident, a vehicle went through the back of a garage at 435 Fletcher St.
Bacon said the occupant of the home drove through the garage at 6:04 p.m. and the car continued to go through a chain-link fence separating yards.
The damage included structural damage in the form of support posts at the rear of the garage.
“We went in with some heavy shoring struts and did some minor repairs,” Bacon said. “It’s strong enough now that they can hire a contractor to make the needed repairs.”
The driver was not injured.
