Sex abuse case headed to grand jury

Tonawanda News — A North Tonawanda man, Bradley McNamara, who allegedly repeatedly sexually abused a young girl, waived a felony hearing in North Tonawanda City Court Wednesday afternoon.

McNamara, 39, and his lawyer, Robert Berkun, said the case will now proceed to Niagara County Court.

“Make sure you stay in touch with your lawyer,” Judge William Lewis told McNamara, who co-owns Juicy Vapor on Niagara Falls Boulevard.

McNamara, of 35 Division St., was arrested Jan. 29 and charged with second-degree course of sexual misconduct against a child, second-degree criminal sexual act and second-degree rape, all Class D felonies. He also was charged with second-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors.

Police Lt. Karen Smith said the abuse had been occurring “everyday to every other day.”

McNamara allegedly began abusing the girl, who police said he knew, when she was 11 years old in 2011. The now 13-year-old girl reported the abuse to an adult early on Jan. 29, and later told police the latest incident occurred Jan. 27.

McNamara agreed to go in for questioning and was charged with the crimes following a lengthy interview about the alleged incidents.

He is now free after posting $30,000 bail.

Although Smith said she encounters many similar incidents, she said McNamara’s case is especially alarming.

“They are all disturbing but this one is particularly disturbing,” she said after the arrest in January. “It’s always a trusted adult and this is an adult that the child trusted.”
