Matthew L. "Roy" Russell

CITY OF TONAWANDA —  

Matthew L. "Roy" Russell, age 82, of the City of Tonawanda, Monday, October 29, 2012 at Schofield Residence, under the care of Hospice. Born in the Gastown section of Tonawanda,he was the son of the late John E., Sr. and Fanny Irene Russell; husband of the lateBarbara Anna (nee Trinkwalter) Russell; father of the late Timothy M. Russell; and brother ofthe late John Russell, Jr. A 1949 graduate of Tonawanda High School, he was a US Navy veteran serving during the Korean War as an aviation photographer. Roy had been employed as Chief Photographer for the Tonawanda News and the Buffalo News for 42 years. He was a member of the Double T Archery Club for many years and loved hunting, fishing, camping, playing cards, traveling, loved taking photo and Scotch.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Marlene A. (nee Mendola) Russell; four children, Jennifer (James Hoddick) Loomis of Grand Island, Michael (Karen) Russell of Tonawanda, Mark (Joann) Russell of Holland, NY and Scott (Dawn) Russell of North Tonawanda; two step-children, Mark (Martha Brown) Palermo of Rindge, NH and Malissa (Matthew) Kramer of Rexford, NY; fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother, Fred (Joan) Russell of Tonawanda; his sisters-in-law, Freda (the late John) Russell of the Town of Tonawanda, Mary (the late Clyde) Marshall of North Tonawanda, Jean (Robert) Hardy of North Tonawanda, Charlotte (the late Paul) Mazurek of Kenmore, Ernestine (the late Benedict) Licata of West Seneca and the late Grace Hills; and his brother-in-law, Joseph (Sylvia) Trinkwalter of North Tonawanda. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on Friday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at John O. Roth Funeral Home, Inc., 25 William St. (between Morgan & Broad Sts) in Tonawanda. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM on Saturday in Tonawanda Church of Christ, cor. of Delaware and Summit Sts., in Tonawanda. The Rev. Kenneth D. Wood will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are preferred to Association for Research of Childhood Cancer, PO Box 251, Buffalo, NY 14225.
