Robert C. Schwegler

NORTH TONAWANDA — Robert C. Schwegler, 83, of North Tonawanda, Monday (June 25, 2012). Mr. Schwegler was born in North Tonawanda on February 7, 1929 to Edward and Veronica (Roehm) Schwegler. Bob was a graduate of North Tonawanda High School, where he played a number of sports and excelled in football, and later was inducted into the North Tonawanda Football Hall of Fame. He earned a football scholarship and graduated from Columbia University, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He coached varsity football at St. Joe's and Nichols schools. He was a veteran of United States Navy and served as a Lt (jg) with the Navy UDT-SEALs during the Korean War. Bob was a member of Sutherland Lodge, Elks Lodge 860, The American Legion and Renaissance Club. Bob formerly worked as a CLU with Home Life Insurance and continued in sales with Gray Line Tours of Niagara Falls. Bob was admired for his work ethic, and in his free time enjoyed reading, gardening, the beach, watching sports and playing cards.

Mr. Schwegler is survived by his wife, Patricia (McCoy) Schwegler; father of Robert P., Joan C. (Ronald) Winter, William F. (Dawn), Carl E. (Gina) and George P. (Cathy); brother of the late Edward (Betty) Schwegler; grandfather of Robert C., Rachel and Lydia Winter, Sarah S. (William) Scott, Michelle C., Derek W. and Julia M.; also  survived by nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Robert's life will be held at a time to be announced. Interment at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice.
