Don James

WILMINGTON, NC —

Don James, former resident of the City of Tonawanda and Hamburg, NY, died on Sunday at his home in Wilmington, NC, with all of his immediate family present. Mr. James was a Navy veteran of the Korean War from 1953-1956. While stationed at Cherry Point, NC, he met and married Elizabeth Dixon of Beaufort, NC, and, together, they owned and operated Sentry South Appliance Service Co. in West Seneca, NY, for 32 years. Mr. James will be remembered by many as the man who would help customers "do it yourself" fixing their home appliances. Upon his retirement in 2010, the business was passed on to his children who continue serving West Seneca and the Southtowns.
Mr. James was an avid traveler and especially enjoyed America's train systems. Besides those interests, he loved amateur photography, recording and sharing music and videos, and he leaves behind a legacy of picture stories and music for his family and friends. He and Elizabeth were married for 56 years and were inseparable in both their careers and personal lives.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; and two children, a daughter, Kathy (nee James) and Carl Stutz, Sr.; and a son, Jim and Kay James; four grandchildren, Thomas and Sarah James, Casey James, Carl Stutz, Jr. and Stephan Stutz; and one great-granddaughter, Kylee James. He is also survived by two sisters, Carolyn (nee James) Krueger of Rochester, NY and Marian (nee James) and Douglas Joyce of Shandon, CA. Another sister, Helen (nee James) and Robert Hetzel passed away in 1985.
A private service for the family was held at Andrews Mortuary, Wilmington, NC, on December 18th with a Celebration of his Life with friends and family to be held in early 2013 in Hamburg, NY. Details will be published in the near future. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude for all those who reached out during Mr. James' illness and since his passing. Don and Liz touched many lives and that has been returned in kind to Liz and the rest of the family during this difficult time.
