Charles F. Klaes

NORTH TONAWANDA —

Charles F. Klaes, age 85, of North Tonawanda, passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2012, at DeGraff Memorial Hospital. Mr. Klaes was born on January 17, 1927 in Buffalo, son of the late Charles and Pearl (nee Boehm).
Mr. Klaes served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II and in the U.S. Coast Guard. Mr. Klaes retired from New York Telephone as a supervisor following a 34-year career. Mr. Klaes was chief umpire and President of North Tonawanda Little League for 37 years. He had the distinction of having a field named after him. He also volunteered at Spruce School where the kindergarten children knew him as "Grandpa Charlie".
Mr. Klaes is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mary Jane (nee Lavey) Klaes; his seven children, Charles (Darlene) Klaes of Queen Creek, AZ, Timothy (Amy) Klaes of North Tonawanda, Patricia (Mario) Boekestyn of Tonawanda, Michael (Lisa) Klaes of Hamburg, Barbara (Bob) Lasky of North Tonawanda, Dean Klaes of North Tonawanda and Eric (Michelle) Klaes of Pendleton; brother of the late James, Marion and Hugh Klaes. Also survived by seventeen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 2-4 PM and 6-9 PM at the WATTENGEL Funeral Home, 307 Oliver St., North Tonawanda. Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 10:00 AM from St. Jude the Apostle Parish, 800 Niagara Falls Blvd. Please assemble at church. Interment with military honors, White Chapel Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094.
