Benjamin Gromada

CITY OF TONAWANDA — Benjamin Gromada, age 78, of the City of Tonawanda, died on Tuesday, January 1, 2013.  Born in Buffalo, NY, to the late Benjamin and Julia (Mendrikowski) Gromada, he had been a resident of the City of Tonawanda for the greater part of his life, and was the father of the late Sandra Gromada. Benjamin was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He joined the City of Tonawanda Police Department in 1961 and became a Detective in 1974, until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the DAV and the WARP. He also was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in the City of Tonawanda.  

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Isabelle (nee Sawbridge) Gromada; his daughter, Cynthia (Randy) Dominske of Grand Island, NY;  a son, David Gromada of VA; his grandson, Thomas; a brother, Richard (Marcia) Gromada of FL; and several nieces and nephews.  

There will be no prior visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a  Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 8, at 10 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Chapel,  71 Adam St., in the City of Tonawanda. Private entombment will be in Ascension Chapel Mausoleum in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart/Stroke Association,  PO Box 3049,  Syracuse, NY 13220; or to the charity of your choice. Arrangements by JOHN O.
