M. Monica Marx

NORTH TONAWANDA —  

M. Monica (nee Smith) Marx, age 92, of North Tonawanda, October 11, 2012. Monica was born on September 20, 1920. She was a graduate of the E.J. Meyer Memorial Nursing School in 1939, and went to work as one of the first industrial nurses at Durez Chemicals Company in North Tonawanda. Monica married Andrew J. Marx, a co-worker at Durez, on October 27, 1956, and they were married for 44 years until his death in 2001. Monica was a world traveler, visiting many countries in Europe on her many trips abroad. She also enjoyed extensive traveling within the United States as well. Monica had a lifelong love of history, and an expression of this was her active involvement in the North Tonawanda Historical Museum, and also being a docent at the Long Homestead.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Susan Elaine Marx, a resident of California; two brothers, William and Richard Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home, Inc., 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Rd. in North Tonawanda on Sunday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 10 AM from St. Jude the Apostle R. C. Church. Interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
