Elizabeth "Betty" Munschauer

AMHERST — Elizabeth "Betty" (nee Sweeney) Munschauer, age 96, of Amherst, died on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at her residence. Born in Buffalo, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Ivah (nee Rorick) Sweeney and was a 1933 graduate of Bennett High School in Buffalo. Betty attended the University of Michigan as an English and Math major, but due to the Depression she returned to Buffalo after her sophomore year. She eloped with William Munschauer in 1935 and they lived in Buffalo and then Snyder, before buying a 120 acre farm in Clarence where they raised Hackney Ponies. Betty was a volunteer at Millard Fillmore Hospital in Buffalo for 30 years, where she served as a Chairman of the Gift Shop and President of the Women's Board for several years. She was the wife of the late William F. Munschauer, who died in 1976.

She was the beloved mother of William (late Marylin) Munschauer, Karen (James) Meister and Bruce Munschauer; grandmother of Susan Grandquist, Todd (Lupe), William (Denise), Phil (Teresa), and Melissa Munschauer, David, Douglas (Pamela) and Michael (Donna) Meister and Tracy Burton; and beloved sister of Norma (late Edward) Marlette. Also surviving are fifteen great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

There is no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Monday at St. Francis Chapel on Adam Street in Tonawanda. Interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. If desired, memorials to Wings Flights of Hope, Inc., are preferred by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the care of the HAMP FUNERAL HOME, INC.,  Tonawanda.
