NIAGARA FALLS —
Anthony E. "Tony G." Guthrie passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, November 17, 2012. Tony was born on March 18, 1933 in Niagara Falls, the son of Edmond A. Guthrie and Anna L. (Kozdranski) Guthrie.
Tony attended Holy Rosary School and was a proud member of the first graduating class of Bishop Duffy High School. He then attended Bryant and Stratton College where he received a degree in Business Management. After college, Tony enlisted in the US Air Force. He was stationed in Del Rio, Texas and Tokyo, Japan during the Korean Conflict. After serving in the Air Force, Tony was employed at Walter S. Kozdranski Trucking and Paving until 1983. He then became a member of Laborer's Local 91 of Niagara Falls, NY, and worked on many construction projects until his retirement in 1990.
A lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, Tony was very active in many ways. He was a member of the Board of Associates of Mt. St. Mary's Hospital where he performed many charitable deeds. Including St. Mary's Golf Tournament and especially the Tom Hewitt Sports Award Dinner. He also loved to ring the bell for the Salvation Army every holiday season. Tony also belonged to the Holi-Mont Ski Club from 1974 until 1990. He was also a member of the Frontier Country Club. Tony was a loving man who touched the lives and hearts of everyone he knew. He was well known for his good sense of humor and his quick wit. And he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Tony is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Judy (Wiley) Guthrie; his children, Constance A. Guthrie-Greene of Niagara Falls, Anthony E. Guthrie, Jr. of Harwich, MA, and Terrance J. Guthrie of Niagara Falls; his son-in-law, Dr. Robert S. Greene PHA; brother-in-law, Richard (Ann Marie) Wiley; mother-in-law, Helen Wiley, all of Niagara Falls; grandchildren, Rochelle (Chad) May of Brooklyn, NY, Andrea Odrzywolski of Harwich, MA, Samantha, Shelby and Trevor Guthrie and Christopher, Michael Greene. Also survived by several cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving daughter, Ann Marie Guthrie; and loving daughter-in-law, Linda M. Guthrie.
Friends may call on Friday, November 23rd from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at ZAJAC FUNERAL HOME, INC., 319-24th St., cor. Welch Ave., Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will begin at 9:30 AM on Saturday, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent DePaul Parish (St. Leo's site) 1055 Military Rd. Burial at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Salvation Army, 7018 Buffalo Ave., Niagara Falls, NY 14304.
