I’ll tell you why unions are bad. Two workers in the Niagara County highway department have not shown up for work in almost three weeks. No vacation time was used. They call in sick occasionally yet they’ll keep their jobs, thanks to the union.

Tell Walmart to quit arguing with the North Tonawandans and come over to Tonawanda. We have a perfect spot for them where they could build the store and there’d be no problems.

Every single day that passes I become more and more fearful about the irreparable damage that Barack Obama can do to this country. Damage that generations of freedom-loving people will not be able to repair. If we don’t do what needs to be done in November and change the balance of power in Washington to remove these dangerous Democrats, then our grandchildren and history itself will curse us for what we did in the 2008 elections. You will not be proud of what the history books say about this generation, the one that destroyed the hopes, dreams and sacrifices of 225 years of American patriots.

Reading that Niawanda Park will allow dogs in a certain section. I’m a resident for almost 50 years and the only really wonderful thing we have is the park It’s the most beautiful thing in this area and people come from all over and they love it. To walk down there now and have to put up with dogs is not acceptable to me. I go down there almost every day in the summer. Now we won’t be able to enjoy it because there will be dogs all over the place.

I’m glad the person is no longer going to shop at Budweys because of all the money he’s cost us in lawsuits. Now there will be more room for me to shop.

I love the new Web site. You should be very proud. It would be nice, though, if you put a link on how to contact Sound Off on the Sound Off page and on your contact page list people’s e-mail address. Nice job.

ADAMCZYK: The endless autumn

DUVALL: Church shouldn’t be forced to offer birth control
In announcing that the federal government will require religious institutions to provide free access to birth control, President Obama touched off a heated debate about religious freedom — one he is likely to lose.

I think the North Tonawanda school district should look into requiring school uniforms. I think if the school board members walked around the high school and saw how some of these students dress they’d be appalled, to say the least. No school dress code is being enforced. They should consider the pros and cons of bringing back school uniforms.

Long ago, in a much simpler time, ticket sales accounted for the majority of revenues for professional football teams.

LEFFLER: Don’t wait to be productive
I’ve always been a bit of a night person. It started in college when I would stay up all hours of the night — doing homework. Or something.
