Why did NT issue these tree trimmers a permit? They clearly are not certified arborists. To call them Forrest Gump would be insulting Forrest Gump. You don’t come on private property, trim half the branches on a tree, make a big mess and move on. My tree is leaning on my house now. The branches were nowhere near the wires. They must be getting paid by how many tippers they fill. This is a disgrace! I want to know who to send the bill to for the rest of my tree removal.

You mean someone just noticed that the Mobil station is charging more money than any regular station? They’ve been ripping off the area for quite a while, including the station at Robinson and Niagara Falls Boulevard, and the station down the boulevard in Amherst. Save your money, don’t buy Mobil.

Only in North Tonawanda could you have a school-related, sports-sanctioned event at a tavern. I’m referring to the Hall of Fame night the other day at the high school for the basketball team. Instead of leaving it out of the program, they put in the flier about the reception after the program at a tavern. Another fine job by our school district.

Thank you Gov. Paterson for giving me one more thing to buy at the Indian reservations. I already get my cigarettes and gas there. Now I can get my soda pop there, too. How many more things are you going to tax to make us purchase them at the reservations? Are you getting a kickback from them? Keep overtaxing us and soon we’ll be buying everything at the reservations.

It appears that President Obama finally got the message. It’s the message that one of his predecessors used during his campaign. That is, “It’s the Economy, Stupid.” The president finally addressed the problem of Lack of Jobs! But that was only after the election of Scott Brown to the seat vacated when Sen. Kennedy died, and he could finally realize that the health bill which he and the Democrats in Congress have been trying to literally jam through the system is pretty much dead! If you've seen the discussion on You Tube about the bill where they mention page and paragraph, you’d see that the bill is almost criminal in that they take away the people’s rights and force them to take actions they may not want to. We can thank our lucky stars that the bill is, if nothing else, in limbo.

I agree with the person who commented about our government/country and the CEOs on Wall Street. We need to keep some money for ourselves and get things fixed up. Everywhere you go the roads, bridges, buildings, etc. are a mess. And yet we give to other countries to fix their places and things. What about us and ours for a change? How about a  collection/fundraiser for US? Other countries’ roads, buildings and bridges are looking better than ours!

To the person who thinks the Mobil gas station is cheating customers, Mobil is the highest priced gas station around. You have your choice to go elsewhere. Noco is cheaper and Tops saves you money when you shop. I get gas at BJ’s and I pay 15 cents a gallon less than Mobil. After eight fillups, the membership is paid for.

  • OUR VIEW: Now who’s waging class warfare?

It was absurd for Republicans to cast President Obama’s call for a slightly higher income tax rate on the wealthiest Americans as class warfare.

There is no way the United States can afford a care package like Obamacare. This man has been a failure in everything he has done.

  • Barbara Tucker TUCKER: Another side of the SPCA

With all the negative news about the SPCA of Niagara County, it seems a good time to weigh-in about the wonderful SPCA Serving Erie County.

NT taxpayers beware: The district is facing a $1.5 million shortfall this year. Yet the district continues to have tech and music teachers with only 4 students per class while the academic classes continue to have 30 to 32 students per class. Where are the district’s priorities? Why are we teaching private vocal lessons to only a few?

  • adamczyk, ed ADAMCZYK: The return of The Slash

A recent column in this space about the myriad effects of personal technology (smartphones si, singing toothbrushes no) mentioned the curse of lifelong learning, that carousel of constant vocational training and retraining forced by a life on a globe spinning faster and flattening faster than society can cope, and that’s where the commentators keyed this in this week’s virtual mailbag.

    I hate the cold.
Most winter days in the Tonawanda News newsroom, I’m sitting here wearing my coat. (I’m doing it right now, as a matter of fact.)

Given all the “findings” reported at the Niagara County SPCA, it’s hard to understand why a third party has not been appointed to audit and review the status of the Erie County SPCA. According to several reports, both agencies work closely together on a regular basis. I think it is time the Erie County SPCA's practices and procedures be investigated as well. Based on encounters family members and I have had with the Erie County SPCA, I certainly hope they treat their animals better than they treat the people who come through their doors.

Normally I would jump at the chance to make fun of Newt Gingrich for saying something zany like how he plans to build American colonies on the moon.

Boy, that's too bad about what happened to Vito's sign. I hope they throw the book at that guy! Just like that other restaurant in Budwey Plaza. The scene they made in front of everyone. They did nothing but embarrass themselves. If you don't know how to run your business properly, don't go blaming everyone else!
