All you Americans who continue to buy Japanese car brands like Toyota, take a look at your accelerator pedal. Serves you right!

I wonder how many readers will actually miss Eric DuVall’s inherent sarcasm in his “So what has socialism actually done for ME?” in Sunday’s issue? Sorry, DuVall, your “examples” render your pro-socialism agenda moot because under your desired socialism you actually would not even own your own home - it would belong to the “collective” and you would only be allowed to live in it based upon your ability to contribute/work for it. How valuable is a journalist in the true social/collective society?

To the person that thinks Republicans are “greedy, selfish hypocrites": Have you ever created a job just to have the government tax your face off just to help shallow and unmotivated people like you? Do you donate time and money to help others? Probably not. The majority of small businesses are Republican...according to the US Chamber of Commerce and we are the backbone of this country. Didn’t you just see one of the most liberal states in the union reject the president’s health plan? We work our tails off just to pay high taxes to help shallow people like you. Don’t call us selfish because we give and give and give while you sit and complain about your position in life. Feed me, help me, give me things that hard working families can’t even get. Who’s the hypocrite here?

So now someone is blaming the green car’s driver. What about the pedestrian, maybe she was texting, maybe on her phone, or listening to music and walked against the red light. Wait till an investigation is complete before you point fingers.

Everyone seems to be focused on cell phones and texting while driving, what about these people who drive with a dog on their lap, sometimes blocking their view. Ever wonder what happens to Fifi when you rear-end a car? She gets squashed to about 1/2” between you and the steering wheel. Maybe you should use a car carrier.

Toyota took care of the recall right away? Please get the facts right. The problem, first reported in 2001 was called sudden-acceleration and the crashes caused over 19 deaths. Toyota blamed the floor mats first, covering up the real reason. It did not become public until August 2009 when a family of four was killed. Again, floor mats, but the floor mats in that case were in the trunk.

Where do people get their facts? Toyota said it is still safe to drive their cars. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is telling owners of recalled Toyotas to stop driving the vehicles and get them fixed. Who do you believe? The company that sold you a lemon or the transportation secretary? Also Toyota didn’t act until the government made them.

Instead of running a rather wordy, freedom-restricting New York Times editorial, the editor should have ran these words: “Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech.” If individuals have freedom of speech rights, so do groups of individuals, like corporations and unions. The media know that the less political speech that is out there, the more power they have. For example, during the Blago scandal, the network morning shows not once mentioned he was a Democrat. Yet during the Republican Mark Foley scandal, you would have thought his first name was “Republican.” Anyway, the whole notion that corporations are somehow bad, is a left-wing myth, with no basis in reality.
