I was just wondering since when does North Tonawanda have big garbage pick-up weekly? I was informed when I first bought my house that the things I put out needed to be taken away from the curb till big garbage day or pay the city an additional $75. I have noticed that people in my area have had garbage out for weeks and they have not been left notes to have the things moved and it’s making the city look like it’s the slums. This is done in the area every month and nothing is ever done.

Why aren’t the administrators at Tonawanda High School allowing students to enter the school at the Hinds and Broad street entrance like in previous years? This is creating huge traffic jams on Fletcher Street and often I’m now late for work because of this mess. And on the day the DPW does garbage pick-up on Fletcher Street, it is done right at the same time the students are arriving for school. Do we have to wait for a student to be run down or crushed under a piece of heavy equipment, or can the school and DPW somehow work together to eliminate this tragedy waiting to happen? Come on people. Pick up your phones.

So the mayor spent about six weeks meeting with every department head and the City Accountant and came up with a budget proposal. He then forwarded the proposal to the Common Council. The Common Council and Rob Ortt spent about five weeks criticizing the mayor’s proposed budget but came up with no alternatives. Ortt and the Council never met with any department heads or anyone else for that matter. Then, in an amazing scene of dysfunction, after doing nothing to add or subtract from the budget, proposed their own budget and then voted it down, meaning the mayor’s proposed budget, which they complained about but did nothing to, went into effect. Follow this? Hey, you voted them into office. Just think, Nancy Donovan and Dennis Pasiak are running for office again. Vote them in and we can have this same circus for another two years. I can’t wait!

I think the North Tonawanda school district should look into requiring school uniforms. I think if the school board members walked around the high school and saw how some of these students dress they’d be appalled, to say the least. No school dress code is being enforced. They should consider the pros and cons of bringing back school uniforms.

Bob Confer, looks like you did get a little help, regarding your unexpected sights in Niagara. Personally I don’t feel imperiled by bobcats, bears and other wild animals. But I am afraid of you and opinions.

In a handful of swing states that will decide the election, immigration will play a large — perhaps even determining — role in whether Barack Obama gets another four years.
