SOUND OFF: Published November 10

Why don’t you put an “agree” and “disagree” button under each Sound Off online to see how many people agree and disagree with the Sound Off? That way we can see how many people agree with that Sound Off. Would be interesting to see the percentage of each one.

It has been my privilege to be back in my home town for the past three months. I can truly appreciate how great this town is and was. (I’m) Reading the many articles about the possible cancellation of the T-NT football games because we don’t want to bruise the psyche of the young players, to the NT Republican party saying no to a Walmart. Wow, how my home town has evolved. Let’s address the Walmart issue. This is something no town should want. The way their employees are treated is a debacle. Sure, their prices are a bit lower, but employees do not benefit from their employ. This is a corporation that just doesn’t care about the people. Now, for the parents who want to see the T-NT football game cancelled ... stop your wishing and whining right now. This is a rite of passage to young men playing football for their beloved school. Hearing the older men say they played in the game and it was a snowstorm, or how good both teams were at that time, gives these young men a better chance to bond more with dads, uncles and friends. Now, the big discussion on moving Clint Small Stadium to next to THS. A foolish maneuver. NT did itself a great injustice with the move. The field is a disgrace to the school with only one entrance and exit and very little available to the handicapped spectator. I would be very opposed to seeing Tonawanda move its field and ask NT to do something about your conditions there. A poor excuse for a facility with a great football program.

I had the opportunity to attend the Glory be to Kids at Pinewoods Park. It was a wonderful affair. A fun run and a chowder cookoff. A band and lots of people. A great time was had by all.

T-NT week is a week to be celebrated. As for (someone saying) the NT superintendent was absent for everything? I went to the T-NT game and he was there. Besides, the game is the most important part of the whole week. Instead of opening your mouth, look around. He was at the game.

•••

I saw the NT superintendent at the T-NT game. I spoke to him at the event and he is always very supportive of the North Tonawanda sports teams.

Maybe the Tonawanda News should give 50 cents back to the senior citizens who subscribe and get no paper on Mondays. This is in conjunction to the editorial “This cola needs to stay flat.” How about your inflation increase?

I just read the NT school board approved raises for all teachers. Are these people crazy? I would vote every school board member out.

If you keep taking signals down on Nash Road, it will become a regular speedway. Don’t forget: It’s still a city street, with side streets driveways and businesses.

I think the North Tonawanda school district should look into requiring school uniforms. I think if the school board members walked around the high school and saw how some of these students dress they’d be appalled, to say the least. No school dress code is being enforced. They should consider the pros and cons of bringing back school uniforms.
