I would like to express my gratitude to all of our veterans not only on Veterans Day, but every day. Most everybody knows a veteran or a family of a veteran, and I encourage all to stop and give them a brief hello and thank them for their service! We owe them so very much, it’s the least we can do.

Last year, when Bush was president, the federal deficit was over $400 billion, and people were worried. The deficit this year, under Obama, is $1.4 trillion! Is this the change he promised? And on top of that, the unemployment rate just hit 10.2 percent this year! Now I’m really worried about the changes we are having!

I don’t know how much more money that this crazy bearded wonder is going to try to steal from us people who can’t afford it. Medicare is going up. We’re not getting a raise and now he wants to make everybody get new license plates and pay all this money. This is ridiculous! They should do something about this governor.

In response to the individual questioning the City of Tonawanda school board approving a volunteer coach after the fact: The individual has done it for three years and every board member, administrator, parent and coaches knew about it. As for the questioning of individuals going on field trips with our students, especially to Maryland, I agree with the board asking and wanting to know who they are. It is their job to do so. Thanks to the concerned person for sharing their skewed viewpoint.

I am retired and enjoy walking many times during the day throughout the year around my neighborhood. It’s usually quiet out until I come close to one house where the dog does not stop barking and it always happens to be out when I take my walks, which is quite frequently all through the year. I feel sorry for the neighbors who have to listen to the barking. It is disrespectful. I don’t even have to be on that street and I can hear that dog barking. Isn’t there a law or an ordinance about barking dogs? Please be more respectful of your neighbors and discipline your dog or bring it in the house.

To the teacher who thinks that complaints about their salaries and raises come from uneducated people: My husband and I are college-educated, hard-working people. We have paid the ridiculously high taxes for North Tonawanda schools for years. We both work in the private sector, get only a handful of holidays and a few short weeks of vacation each year and have had no raises in years. So stop being so sanctimonious. Educated people are unhappy with your new contract too!

The election results in the city may be unofficial, but I have a proposal. As it stands right now about half of the people in the city were for Mr. Pilozzi and half were for Mr. Davis. Why not give the city the best of both worlds? Mr. Pilozzi should hire Mr. Davis to be his administrative assistant. This way City Hall can have the steady hand of one and the energy and passion of the other. Probably won’t happen, but a person can dream, right?

I think the North Tonawanda school district should look into requiring school uniforms. I think if the school board members walked around the high school and saw how some of these students dress they’d be appalled, to say the least. No school dress code is being enforced. They should consider the pros and cons of bringing back school uniforms.
