If you are the person who stole the Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii from the Tonawanda Housing apartment on November 9, please be aware that you stole these items from a Gulf War vet who now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. These items belonged to my son and kept his mind off the flashbacks and nightmares he suffers as a result of being in the Middle East. Please return these items to the Tonawanda police department so they can be returned to my son. Parents, if your child shows up with these new toys and you did not purchase them, please ask questions! These things were stolen from a solder who was ready to lay down his life for you! Please give them back!

I live on Ward Road and once again the leaf pickup schedule has me as the first person to be picked up. When is the DPW going to realize that it needs to rotate the streets every year so that the same people don’t get stuck looking at the green leaves on their trees as the truck goes by to pick up the leaves that are still hanging on the branches? Enough is enough. They need to change the schedule. My last pickup was Oct. 29 and I still had green leaves on my trees.

Carl Paladino’s statement that Chris Collins’ ugly racist remark shouldn’t be construed as against religion or ethnicity is totally ridiculous. The fact is, comparing a Jewish man to Hitler is completely off-base and certainly was intended as a racist remark. We Jewish people will remember that when Chris Collins and his lackies come up for election.

Now, to save North Tonawanda, we are going to build houses on Walck Road, Williams Road, etc. in North Tonawanda. What happened to the words “industrial area?” Nice try, NT government, to pull the wool over our eyes. Who will upkeep and pay for this? It will have a high rate of foreclosures.

We’ve always had great football, volleyball, track and swimming teams in North Tonawanda. Reading the paper recently, I’ve noticed the golf team. What has happened to them? 0-20. I sent two boys to high school in North Tonawanda. They played on the team for four years. They went to the sectionals. NT was well-represented. After they graduated from North Tonawanda, they went on to college and played on their college teams. They were very well-coached and knew what they were doing. What in the world has happened to the team that it went 0-20?

They’re talking about schools getting vaccines for the swine flu. Why aren’t the schools in Tonawanda and North Tonawanda getting the vaccine? They are so worried about the absenteeism, something should be done to get the kids vaccinated.

Are they crazy in Niagara Falls? The idea of a dream toys show is great, but a gentleman’s VIP room featuring a lingerie and fashion show, bikini contests and go-go pole dancers? Aren’t there enough problems with sex? Let it be a family event, instead of sexual ideas. I wouldn’t take my kids there even if the VIP room is separate.

As a North Tonawanda resident, I am disgusted by the approval of the new North Tonawanda teachers’ contract. Teachers who are on the top step, and there are many, will receive backpay and a raise this year totaling almost $19,000. Then, if they retire, they get another $20,000 bonus for sick days. That is almost $40,000. How can this be possible when so many people in the North Tonawanda area are unemployed? I guess it helps to have the spouses of school teachers on the school board. This is outrageous.

If you keep taking signals down on Nash Road, it will become a regular speedway. Don’t forget: It’s still a city street, with side streets driveways and businesses.

DUVALL: Church shouldn’t be forced to offer birth control
In announcing that the federal government will require religious institutions to provide free access to birth control, President Obama touched off a heated debate about religious freedom — one he is likely to lose.

I think the North Tonawanda school district should look into requiring school uniforms. I think if the school board members walked around the high school and saw how some of these students dress they’d be appalled, to say the least. No school dress code is being enforced. They should consider the pros and cons of bringing back school uniforms.
