I’m a registered Democrat but this past election I voted for the Republican candidate for mayor in North Tonawanda. Personally I hope the Republicans do halt the big-box monstrosity called Walmart from opening up in our city. Those pro-Wallyworld people will be the very first ones calling into Sound Off to complain about the deterioration on Erie Avenue caused by the big trucks going into Walmart and the increased car traffic. They’ll be the first to complain about the poor sewer system in the city and decreased water pressure.

Irony. I’d like to give a good definition of irony. On Veterans Day a veteran had to work. He didn’t get off with pay. He had to work. After work, he tried to pay his taxes and went to city hall. Unfortunately, city hall, comprised mostly of non-veterans had the day off with pay. So, the veteran, who had to work on Veterans Day couldn’t pay his taxes, which were being used to pay for the people who had the day off, who weren’t veterans. God bless America.

A person called in about discrimination against a business. If you don’t give the name, location or type of business, how can anyone be of help?

I love when they come out with the national average. That has nothing to do with us! The national average cost to heat a home is $900. Well, it costs me almost $2,500 to heat my home. That’s far from the national average. If they’re trying to average us with the south, they’re crazy. Even our gas pumps. Our gas average is nearly $3 a gallon, and it’s a heck of a lot less in other states. This national average is just a big lie.
