n Niagara Frontier Chapter of National Wild Turkey Federation will be holding their monthly meeting at the Twin Village Post 463, Litchfield Ave., Lancaster (near Transit and Broadway) starting at 7:30 p.m.
n Somerset Conservation Club will hold their monthly meeting starting at 7 p.m. at their club house located on Johnson Creek Road, Barker.
THURSDAY
n Wilson Conservation Club Auxiliary, Route 425, will be holding their monthly meeting starting at 7:30 p.m.
FRIDAY
n Creatures of the Night Program at Evangola State Park from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Nature sounds in the night. For information and registration call 826-8895.
SATURDAY
n New York State Free Fishing Days weekend (Saturday and Sunday) around the state. No fishing license is required by anyone, but you must follow fishing regulations in the waters you intend to fish. Call the DEC at 851-7010 for more information.
n Olcott Kids Fishing Derby at the Town of Newfane Marina, Olcott, from 8 a.m. to noon. Sponsored by the Newfane/Olcott Lions Club, the Buffalo Sabres Alumni group and the Town of Newfane Tourism Committee. For more information call 778-8531.
n DEC/Erie Federation Youth Fishing Clinic at Chestnut Ridge Park, Orchard Park, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. To register, call the East Aurora Boys and Girls Club at 652-4180.
n Opening day of Bass Season in the Province of Ontario.
n Father’s Day Flurry Shoot at the North Forest Rod and Gun Club, Stone Road, Lockport, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Two-person teams, 30 birds, 60 seconds, $8 per round per team. Shoot as many times as you like. Proceeds to benefit the Niagara County Scholastic Clay s Target Team.

Clearing of creeks should make for better fishing
Many of the smaller streams are already fishable and the larger creeks will probably be on fire by this weekend.

HILTS: State releases deer, bear figures
While I don’t have any first-hand experience from last year’s big game season due to some health issues, I heard enough comments from the peanut gallery to think that hunting action for whitetail deer was off, down and marginal at best.
