Tonawanda News — It’s it about time that the Canal Fest releases information on the receipts of each participating organization/vendor and what they pay Canal Fest annually and also releases Canal Fest statements to the taxpayers of the Tonawandas each year in detail so we can see who in the Tonawandas benefits from having it. Also couldn’t the newspaper work with both mayors and do a survey after each Canal Fest of the individual merchants on each side to determine what they got in positives and negatives from each Canal Fest and what they’d like to see changed? A survey of the residents of the Gateway Center, Tonawanda Tower, and Remington Lofts would also be useful to see how the festival affects them.

In response to the person who complained that kids in North Tonawanda do not use the Memorial pool or the tennis courts. Please open your eyes. Over 200 people attend Memorial pool daily. From 10 to 11 a.m. there are several children taking tennis lessons at the tennis courts on Payne Avenue. If you haven’t noticed we are in a financial crisis as a community and a country. The services delivered by our local recreation departments are needed and well used. I am thankful for the NT recreation department that provides services for our children at such a reasonable cost.

There are teens on Miller Street that use unbelievably vile language in public. Too many parents are merely breeders.

I love it! I love it! I love it! Contrary to Mitt Romney’s and the Republican Party rumblings, it has been found by an independent review of the Affordable Care Act (ridiculed by the Republicans as Obamacare) that it will close the budget deficit and the amendments and repealing by the Republicans that are proposed would increase the budget deficit. I hear windbag Rush Limbaugh today making excuses as to why the study is flawed. Suck it up windy and eat humble pie! The obstructionist Republican Party will not support anything good for the people presented by President Obama because they want to hurt the presdient, no matter the impact on the country. Unfortunately, their actions have hurt the country and its citizens and they don’t care!

North Tonawanda survived for years with a part time mayor and a secretary and the city was prosperous. Now we have a full time mayor, full time assistant and full time secretary and are we any more prosperous? I don’t see that we’ve gotten our money’s worth since this full time mayor stuff was created. Yes this same mayor with a full staff of people insists that we will have a part time wastewater treatment head. Since it only takes raising political donations and ridiculous promises to be a mayor but it takes an engineering background to run the wastewater plant, why is that plant being shorted while Ortt takes care of his buddies in his office?
