SOUND OFF: Published March 10, 2010

I agree with the Sound-Off statement about shame on the people who adopted a dog after the Pitstop Puppies story. I agree with you; if they wanted a dog they should have gotten one before it was on the news. Why do people always want something after they see it on the TV? It is like Haiti. Now all off a sudden everyone wanted to adopt a child just because they had a earthquake. Where were you before the disaster?

North Tonawanda is a union town? Ha ! Ha! Look around at all the factories and other big companies. See any? That is what the unions did for North Tonawanda! Ask those who worked at Durez, American Axle, Chevy how they feel about their unions. Even those businesses that are suing and complaining about Walmart because it might hurt their wallet don’t have unions. If Walmart wants to come into North Tonawanda and improve a very large vacant parcel of land that is currently an eyesore and pay lots and lots of taxes to North Tonawanda and increase our tax base ... great! Hundreds of part-time and full-time jobs in the area are better than no jobs, don’t you think? Not to mention all the construction jobs in the beginning. Nobody is forcing you to shop there or work there but allow us the choice.

I just drove down Oliver Street between Goundry and Robinson, then turned right on Robinson. Both of these roads are a mess. Huge potholes on many of them. It’s an embarrassment to our great city. I called the mayor’s office in early February and they said they would look into it but they did nothing. Well, I’m going to call Sound-Off every month until this gets fixed. Maybe the mayor will act then, because he just ignored my phone calls.

Bin Laden is dead. GM is alive. Those don’t sound like failures to me.

If you keep taking signals down on Nash Road, it will become a regular speedway. Don’t forget: It’s still a city street, with side streets driveways and businesses.

I think the North Tonawanda school district should look into requiring school uniforms. I think if the school board members walked around the high school and saw how some of these students dress they’d be appalled, to say the least. No school dress code is being enforced. They should consider the pros and cons of bringing back school uniforms.

I’m very grateful I can’t watch the Butterknives on TV anymore. I mean the Sabres, heh-heh.

Bob Confer, looks like you did get a little help, regarding your unexpected sights in Niagara. Personally I don’t feel imperiled by bobcats, bears and other wild animals. But I am afraid of you and opinions.

There is no way the United States can afford a care package like Obamacare. This man has been a failure in everything he has done.

NT taxpayers beware: The district is facing a $1.5 million shortfall this year. Yet the district continues to have tech and music teachers with only 4 students per class while the academic classes continue to have 30 to 32 students per class. Where are the district’s priorities? Why are we teaching private vocal lessons to only a few?

Given all the “findings” reported at the Niagara County SPCA, it’s hard to understand why a third party has not been appointed to audit and review the status of the Erie County SPCA. According to several reports, both agencies work closely together on a regular basis. I think it is time the Erie County SPCA's practices and procedures be investigated as well. Based on encounters family members and I have had with the Erie County SPCA, I certainly hope they treat their animals better than they treat the people who come through their doors.

Boy, that's too bad about what happened to Vito's sign. I hope they throw the book at that guy! Just like that other restaurant in Budwey Plaza. The scene they made in front of everyone. They did nothing but embarrass themselves. If you don't know how to run your business properly, don't go blaming everyone else!
