Tonawanda News — The article in the Feb. 6 edition that was titled “Body Rubs cost...” Massage and acupuncture are not luxuries but are considered holistic remedies for pain. What our headline-grabbing comptroller likes to do is just shoot off his mouth without knowing anything. I have been using massage and it has worked to alleviate my pain. My doctor says he can’t fix my problem and recommended a “pain management specialist” that my insurance would have covered. This guy just wants to give me medicine for the pain. Both the specialist and the meds cost more than a massage does ... which by the way is stopping my pain without drugs. Learn some facts before you talk stupidly.

On Wednesday, February 6th, 2013 someone skewed my fact check regarding automatic weapons and NOT hand guns. See, this person didn’t fully read what I wrote and jumped right in. We have two eyes and two ears for a reason. In addition, as a veteran of the U.S. Army I have full belief in the Second Amendment. Our Country is based on freedoms like this. Wild and unsubstantiated I am not. Informed I am. This gun law will do nothing to curb violence and people that believe it will are sadly uninformed. I am a proud gun owner and I know how to respect the weapons I have. I believe (and please fact check this too) these attacks were not done by law-abiding, gun-loving Americans but rather sick and evil people that decided a minute of “glory” (in their mind) was good enough for them to exit the world. Go ahead said person, make my day and fact check it again! God bless America.

I find it overwhelmingly pathetic that this column seems like it’s just turned into a giant conservative Republican sound-off. Every day, 90 percent of the people posted just ramble on how “terrible” of a job Obama is/was doing, and how they cannot wait until it’s over with. It’s as if this is some massive Republican area we live in. Yet ironically, 57.31 percent of Erie county voted him in and 49.42 percent of Niagara county voted him in (still a majority). Editors? Readers? Conspiracy? All three? It wouldn’t surprise me.

I’m almost 62 years old. I work over 50 hours a week and my wife works 40. We pay over 400 dollars a month for health insurance with a $2,500 deductible including drugs. People on social services have better insurance for free. I feel more like a sucker every day.

The report of more hammers killing people than guns came from the FBI, not fact check, which is a good source but not without its source challenges. Original sources are the ideal ones to use. Also, the time period in any report has to be looked at, as selecting periods out of context can be misleading or contradictory to other periods.
