Tonawanda News — Bennett (1-6, 1-5 A South) hasn't held a team under 20 points this season and the Tigers have given up 40 points or more four out of their seven games this season.
The Lumberjacks (2-5, 1-5 A North) are hoping that trend continues tonight when NT hosts Bennett at 6 p.m. at George Vetter Stadium.
Coming off an emotional and uplifting victory in the 103rd T-NT game, the Jacks hope to capitalize on the momentum and finish the season with a couple of wins.
NT will look to attack the Tigers on the ground, and leading the way will be sophomore sensation Nehemiah Stone. He scored two crucial touchdowns last week against the Warriors to lift his team to victory.
Jacks quarterback Chris Woodard only threw the ball four times against Tonawanda. His impact on the game against Bennett will surely hinge on the success of the running game. He has the arm and speed to give a defense headaches, but may not be fully unleashed as he continues to develop.
In the second half against Tonawanda, the NT defense was stout and really shut down everything the Warriors tried to do. Bennett's offense has been inconsistent this season and the battle between that unit and the Jacks defense should be something to keep an eye on when these two teams meet.
Kenmore East at South Park, 8 p.m.
The Bulldogs led playoff-bound Kenmore West for most of three quarters last Saturday, but the team's inability to make plays down the stretch on offense ultimately led to the loss against its crosstown rival.
Kenmore East coach Matt Chimera was proud of his team for the way his players competed, but there was disappointment within the program because everyone thought the Bulldogs should have won the game.
"We were up 7-0 and we had a couple chances to score and we could't against Ken West," Chimera said. "They had a nice drive to score their second touchdown. We moved the ball all over the field and we won the time of possession battle. I was certainly proud of the kids."
Bulldogs quarterback Connor McMahon may be the most improved player in the Tonawanda area this season. His progression has been evident each week and opposing defenses are faced with choosing between stopping his passing attack or trying to contain him on the ground.
Chimera said that his team has its hands full with South Park and he expects a fast and exciting game.
"They're run a spread offense and they have a very good quarterback — they score a lot of points and they're very athletic," Chimera said.
