After a pair of below-average nights against Lackawanna and Holland, Jesse Lalka came out swinging against Alden.
The Warriors senior knocked down four 3-pointers to finish with a game-high 20 points Tuesday night to help Tonawanda ease past Alden, 64-42, inside the Miller Gym.
“He’s a good leader, has good poise,” Tonawanda coach Hank Hughes said of Lalka, who added five rebounds. “He never seems to get rattled.”
The win pushes the Warriors season record to 13-0, 7-0 in ECIC IV play with a week-long break before hosting league rival, Cleveland Hill next Tuesday. The fourth-ranked Warriors remain the only unbeaten boys varsity team in Western New York.
“We stay focused,” Hughes added. “Every day at practice they seem to hang on every word I say. They really get along on and off the court. They’re unselfish.”
Clayton Hess chipped in another big game as well with 18 points, eight rebounds.
“He’s done a nice job this year, nice job on the boards,” Hughes said of Hess. “He’s been a monster on the boards this year for us and has played great defense, held (Paul) Matuszak to two points.”
Ben Stich added seven points, eight assists, while Jake Spencer had eight points.
