HS ROUNDUP (Nov. 1): Lew-Port booters upset Iroquois

Frankie Valente scored with 12 minutes remaining to lift No. 12 Lewiston-Porter over fourth-seeded Iroquois 2-1 in Class A quarterfinal boys soccer action Saturday. Tyler Diez and Max Braun earned an assist on the tally, which sent the Lancers (7-9-2 overall) into Tuesday’s semifinals against No. 1 Williamsville South at Hamburg.

Robert Minicucci scored the other Lew-Port goal off passes from Dylan Krueger and Diez. Defender Noah Rougeux played well and goalkeeper Austin Crossley had nine saves, according to coach Sam Ricotta.

Shawn Colvin scored the lone goal for the Chiefs.

2-Grand Island 2, 10-Starpoint 0

Jeremy Figler picked up his 14th shutout of the season with five saves in the Class A quarterfinal. GI will play No. 3 Cheektowaga in Tuesday’s semifinal round at Hamburg.

Bobby Ross scored on a header and Karl Albreacht also scored for GI (14-1-3 overall), which got two assists from Joe Fischer and strong play from seniors Chris Stessing and Kolby Banker.

Starpoint, which upset Maryvale in the quarterfinals, finishes the year 8-6-4.

2-Depew 4, 7-Tonawanda 2

Kaitlynn Moore had a goal and an assist for the Warriors, but it wasn’t enough in the Class B quarterfinal matchup. Christine Garrity also scored and Ashley Kowalcyk had an assist for THS (12-5-1 overall). Rachael Banasik, Kim Overmeyer, Ashley Spring and Sarah Turner scored for the Wildcats.
