Buffalo State freshman linebacker Eddie Weiser was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference’s Defensive Rookie of the Year on Friday.
The Grand Island product was a four-time NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Week. He was second on the Bengals with 79 tackles. He also had four interceptions, a sack and a forced fumble.
North Tonawanda’s Matt Pacana was a second team All-NJAC selection after leading the Bengals with 92 tackles. The senior was fourth in the conference in tackles. He also had four interceptions.
Niagara Falls’ Jermaine Rose was named to the NJAC honorable mention list after moving from linebacker to defensive end this fall. He finished third in the conference with eight sacks. The senior also had 51 tackles, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

Matters’ career ends
Seton Hall senior libero Allie Matters saw her stellar four-year career come to an end at the hands of No. 23 Notre Dame in the opening round of the Big East Tournament Friday.
The scores were 25-15, 25-15, 25-19. Matters, a Starpoint graduate, had 14 digs in her final collegiate match.
Late Thursday, Matters was named to the All-Big East second team for the second consecutive season. She averaged 5.47 digs per set, which was second in the conference. She also finishes her career with the nation’s longest double-figure dig streak at 68 matches.
