HS ROUNDUP (Oct. 27): Vazquez leads KW to next round

Senior Kaley Vazquez had 11 kills, 15 assists and three aces as the Kenmore West girls volleyball team scored a 3-0 win over West Seneca West in a Class AA prequarterfinal on Monday.

The sixth-seeded Blue Devils (13-4) won by scores of 25-21, 25-17 and 25-11.

Also for Ken West, Chelsea Moore had 12 digs and Taylor Lewandowski — the program’s season record holder for kills — added 10 kills.

West will play at third-seeded Orchard Park on Wednesday. No. 11 WSW finishes the season 4-11.

8-Ken East 3, 9-Iroquois 0

Alex Dickson played well as did Sarah Weller for East in a 25-10, 25-17, 25-17 Class A prequarterfinal win over the Chiefs. The Bulldogs (6-11 overall) advance to play at top-seeded Sweet Home Wednesday.

10-Jamestown 3, 7-N-W 0

Kailey Walck had 15 assists for the Falcons, but it was the visiting Red Raiders that won the Class AA prequarterfinal 25-21, 25-16, 25-23. N-W finishes 9-9 on the season.

Boys Volleyball

Ken West 3, NT 2

Evan Bullard had 25 kills, 24 digs and a pair of blocks as the Blue Devils scored a 25-17, 14-25, 25-13, 23-25, 25-16 win in Niagara Frontier League action. Ben Bowler had 54 assists and four blocks while Andy Barton had 10 kills for West (11-3).

For NT (6-8), Pat Kenney had 10 kills, Aaron Godfrey had 15 kills and Paul Lukasik had 33 assists.

Lockport 3, Grand Island 1

Sean Smith had nine kills and 14 blocks as Lockport clinched its first-ever NFL championship with the four-set win. Game scores were 25-19, 25-27, 25-20, 25-15. Mike Kojsza had 11 kills and Kyle Shanley had 34 digs for Lockport (12-2 NFL).

Niagara Falls 3, Lew-Port 0

Derek Mort had five kills and 11 service points as the Wolverines cruised to a 25-11, 25-8, 25-7 NFL win. Joe Doane eight service points for Niagara Falls (5-11 overall, 3-11 NFL). Charlie Mantell had three kills and Anthony Gabriele added three blocks for Lew-Port (0-14).

Boys Soccer

13-Tonawanda 2, 20-Alden 0

Will Strehlow and Chris Vanderbrook each scored a goal for the Warriors in Class B qualifying action at Clint Small Stadium. Kyle McGregor made six saves in net for the shutout. THS (6-11 overall) advances to play at fourth-seeded City Honors today.
