Braden Kozlowski was one of three double event winners as the North Tonawanda boys swim team improved to 2-0 in Niagara Frontier League action with a 60-40 win Friday over Kenmore East.
Kozlowski captured the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly for the Jacks. Scott Farrell was victorious in the 50 and 100 free, and Kevin Garven took the 200 and 500 free events.
Matthew Butler was the lone winner for East (0-2 NFL), taking the 100 breaststroke.
Lew-Port 50, Ken West 41
Teammates Eric Ebert and Paul Campbell tied for the 50 freestyle win for Lew-Port in the NFL meet. Both swimmers were also part of the winning 200 medley relay for the Lancers (2-0 NFL). For West (0-2), Kody Kopak won the 100 back.
N-W 99, Lockport 85
Mark Wallace (50 free, 100 back) was a double individual winner for Lockport, setting a state-qualifying school record with his time of 54.28 in the 100 back, but it wasn’t enough for the Lions in the NFL meet. Corey Petrie was also a double winner for Lockport (1-1 NFL), taking the 200 free and 500 free. For Wheatfield (2-0), Brad Heberle won the 200 individual medley and was part of the winning 200 free relay team.
Niagara Falls 108, Grand Island 73
Austin Devlin won the diving event for the Falls, setting a new school record with a score of 281.15. Sam Cale (50 free), Nick Miller (100 free) and Chad Klender (500 free) were also individual winners for the Wolverines (1-1 NFL). Evan Carey won the 200 free and 100 back for the Vikings (0-2).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Mt. St. Mary 40, N-W 22
Sara DiPasquale had 13 points and Erin Shabazz added 10 as the Thunder picked up the win in the opening round of the Wilson Tournament. The Mount (1-0 overall) will play the host Lakewomen for the championship at 7 p.m. today. For N-W (0-1), Kailey Walck, Ericka Furdak and Katie Kroening each had six points.
Wilson 54, Maryvale 30
Jessica Curry had 13 points, 10 rebounds, seven blocks, six steals and two assists to lead the Lakewomen to the win in the opening round of the Wilson Tournament. Lindsey Frauen added seven assists and five steals to go with her 13 points for Wilson (1-0 overall). Ashley Smith poured in a game-high 15 points in the win. Maryvale is 0-1.
Will. North 55, Grand Island 52
Despite 16 points and six assists from reigning Niagara Gazette Player of the Year Kallie Banker, the Vikings fell in the championship game of the Pastor-Cooper Tournament at Daemen College. Mary Scherrer added 12 points and 12 rebounds and Kristin Wegrzyn chipped in with 12 points for GI (1-1 overall). Banker and Wegrzyn were named to the all-tournament team. Corrin Genovese had 18 points for North (2-0).
Depew 53, Newfane 37
Haley Weber had a game-high 12 points and Sonya Rinaldo notched 11 rebounds and three blocks, but the Lady Panthers dropped their non-league opener. Newfane (0-1 overall) trailed 16-4 after the opening quarter. Jenna Majka had 10 points for the Wildcats (1-0).
Junior Varsity
n All-tournament selection Jessica Hastings had 26 points in two games for N-W, which beat Wilson 29-11 in the consolation game of the Wilson Tournament. Kelsey Nielsen had 13 points in two games for N-W, while Meagan Buckner had seven in the loss for Wilson.
Boys Basketball
Middle College 68, St. Joe’s 59
Jake Spitler had 23 points for the Marauders, but it wasn’t enough in the opening round of the Lockport Rotary Tournament. Darale Young had 25 for the Kats, who will play Lockport in the championship game at 7:30 p.m. St. Joe’s (0-1 overall) will play Bennett at 6 p.m. in the consolation game.
Lockport 65, Bennett 33
Sean Smith had a game-high 18 points as the Lions picked up a win in the opening round of the Lockport Rotary Tournament. LHS (1-0 overall) outscored the Tigers 24-2 in the second quarter. It was the first career win for Lockport coach Dave Gilson. The Lions will play Middle College in the championship game at 7:30 p.m. today.
Niagara Catholic 82, Gow 26
Lorenzo Joseph and Mark Nearhood each had four 3-pointers as the Patriots set a school record with 13 treys in a lopsided non-league victory. Mouse Matthews added 10 points for the winners, who improved to 3-0, while Joseph had nine assists.

Starpoint 37, WSE 34
Joe Weber earned a pin at 171 pounds in the night’s final match to give the Spartans the ECIC II win. Also winning by pin for the Spartans (1-1 ECIC II), Bill Drexler (189), Rion Elson (285), Victor Schul (130), Christian Siezega (145) and Gunner Thomas (160).

N-W 2, St. Joe’s 1
Junior Perez scored the game-winning goal for the Falcons in the Western New York Federation large school game at the Pepsi Center late Thursday. N-W moves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in league play. No other information was available.

Lauren Rutherford rolled a 215-516 series to help the Lancers to the Niagara Frontier League win at Frontier Lanes Thursday. Both teams are 1-1.
