Tonawanda News — North Tonawanda scored 33 unanswered points Thursday night, cruising to a 33-6 victory over Lake Shore at George Vetter Stadium.
Sophomore running back Nehemiah Stone added three more touchdowns (two receiving, one rushing) to his impressive, breakout campaign for the Lumberjacks. After the game, coach Tony Truilizio said how impressed he is with the way his team finished off the season.
"I love how we finished," he said. "The last six games we went 4-2, which I'm really happy about. We finished strong and got better as the season went on."
Junior running back Christian Mahoe ran for 123 yards on seven carries and scored one touchdown. Truilizio said sophomore quarterback Chris Woodard played well and late in the game he decided to have a little fun with the senior offensive lineman.
"(Offensive and defensive lineman) Chris Mellott got a rushing touchdown and one series at the end we had all the big lineman in the backfield," he said. "Each one got a carry and brought it down the field."
Truilizio said now that the season is over he's looking to the offseason and said it will be key toward direction of the program. He said kids have to get bigger and stronger and he and his coaching staff will do everything they can to help them get there.
"I think they have to understand that it feels better to win than it does to lose," he said. "We can't just assume because we have x, y and z player coming back that we'll be at the top of our game. It's not going to be easy but basically when the pressure was off and they learned how to win games, which they did, they were successful."
